GARY ANDERSON won 10 successive legs to breeze past Alan Norris and admitted: “That’s one of my best Matchplay performances ever.”
The Flying Scotsman lost the opening leg to Bo’ness based Chuck Norris but then blitzed 10 consecutive legs to win 10-1 and ease into the next round in Blackpool last night.
Ando hit an average of 101, six 180s and a big 139 finish on the way to smashing Norris at the Winter Gardens.
Anderson admitted: “I’ve know Alan a long time even in the BDO days, he’s a very good player but everything went in tonight for me.
“I also hit a few big checkouts after I’d missed the bull finishes. It was just one of those games that just about everything went to plan.
“It’s not a statement or anything, I don’t do that sort of thing. I’m just here to play darts. Every match just depends on which Gary turns up I guess!
“I’ve really enjoyed four or five weeks on the road in the World Series. The Premier League travelling killed me and I was tired for a while, but I feel good right now.”
Ando is second favourite for the Matchplay title behind Michael van Gerwen but admits he doesn’t care what the bookies say.
He added: “There’s no guarantees. Does that mean a Michael v Gary final is going to happen. Of course not. I don’t listen to bookies, that’s for sure.
“I’ve always struggled here in Blackpool. Getting to the semi-final is the best I’ve ever done. But this one of my best performances ever here against Alan, let’s hope I can keep it going.”
