Chris Dobey and Adam Hunt with manager Tommy Gilmour and Unicorn’s Matt Rankin today.

GARY ANDERSON’S protege Chris Dobey has gone from agony to ecstasy in 24 hours – after seeing his footie team Newcastle relegated and then signing for Unicorn Darts!

Dobey and Adam Hunt – who are both the the same Tommy Gilmour management stable with Anderson and Michael Smith – put pen to paper with Unicorn today.

But Dobey, who has requested Newcastle kit replica black and white rings on his new darts, admits it has been a rollercoaster day.

He said: “I’m gutted, totally gutted about Newcastle going down. Not only that but Sunderland getting us relegated was the worst possible way.

“Some of my mates are Sunderland fans so I’ve had a tough few hours. But signing for Unicorn has been the perfect timing to cheer me up.

“Being with Tommy Gilmour and having Gary Anderson as a mentor is the best platform for me to progress.”

Dobey is aiming for a place inside the World’s top 50 and a spot at the World Championship. The 25-year-old from Northumberland makes his debut in Unicorn colours this weekend in Germany at the European Matchplay – and he’s already come close to beatening Michael van Gerwen this year.

Hunt is having a cracking year on the PDC Development Tour. The 22-year-old from Chester-Le-Street has won one tournament, reached the final of another event, as well as two quarter-final appearances. He is currently in 3rd place on the Development Tour Order of Merit.

Current world champion Gary Anderson mentors Dobey and Hunt and said: “Believe me when I say, Chris and Adam are both capable of making a big impression.

“The link up with Unicorn will help that process. They are both cracking players and cracking lads and deserve all the success that is going to come their way.”

Gilmour was delighted to see the pair sign. “It brings together a long-standing relationship between our two companies which is extremely pleasing.”
