MICHAEL van Gerwen has issued a chilling warning to his oche rivals: I’m going to get even better!
The Dutch destroyer claimed his TENTH event win of the year already by regaining the Premier League title, beating Phil Taylor 11-3 in the final on Thursday night.
The green juggernaut is mowing down everything in his path on the oche and has now raked in over £3million in career earnings.
But MVG has told his rivals that he can achieve even more in the game. He said: “I didn’t do too bad this year!
“Every Premier League year I step up a level, raised my standard. My average and games are getting better.
“It’s going to be difficult to keep improving because I don’t know where the top of the building is, so to speak. But I believe I can get even better.”
MVG admits that he has a burning desire to win back the Premier League and World Championship from Gary Anderson – those disappointments are driving him on to further glory.
He added: “It’s amazing, after the worlds this is probably the biggest title. This one of the goals this year to win this trophy.
“It’s a long hard gruelling 16 weeks, not just about finals night. This event is about consistency and getting results when you’re not feeling well or not at your 100 per cent. You put so much effort in for four months.
“I was very happy to hit the record average. But I think it’s more important to do the right things at the right times.
“I hit the 100 checkout against Phil in the final with two double tops finish, that was a massive moment.
“With the standard in darts now, if you don’t take your chances, someone else will punish you for that by breaking your throw. You just can’t afford to miss anything in the Premier League now.
“There is no inch given. You have to start well in every game. The players are so good that it’s so difficult to come from behind to win a match.
“I’ve beaten Phil in both my Premier League finals and the World Championship final win. I don’t really care to be honest, it could be Phil or Gary, both fantastic players.
“It would have been nice to beat Gary in the final I guess as he was the reigning champion. But beating Phil is always special, he is a legend, simple.”
