The Land Rover Range Rover Velar first went on sale in the UK in 2017 to expand the companies premium off-road range. It was released as a Mid-Range car to bridge the gap between the smaller Range Rover Evoque and the Larger Range Rover Sport. Although the Velar is the newest release from Land Rover the name ‘Velar’ goes back to as early as the 1960’s when it was used by Land Rover to disguise original Range Rover prototypes.
The Range Rover Velar is the most dynamic and Stylish SUV from Land Rover and is complete with a futuristic cabin and sizeable boot with a capacity of up to 558 Litres, making it a great choice for a family car. Built with driver and passenger comfort in mind it competes with the likes of the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace and Volvo XC60. The Velar is wider than the Evoque and Nearly as long as the Range Rover Sport, however it is different from previous Land Rover models as there is no front wheel drive version offered and comes with All Wheel Drive as standard which fits with the car’s high-end target market.
The Velar comes in several different models, The standard Range Rover Velar, the Velar S, Velar SE and Velar HSE and the sportier Velar R-Dynamic, R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE and R-Dynamic HSE as well as the top of the range Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition. All models come with 6 Airbags and AEB as well as 2 x 10inch touch screens, rear parking sensors and an 8-speed automatic Gearbox as standard. SE models and above get 3 screens as standard and automatic high beam assistance . The SE also benefits from blind spot monitors, traffic sign recognition, an adaptive speed limiter and a driver condition monitor as well as 18 way adjustable seats. The HSE is even more active with adaptive cruise control, blind spot assist and lane keeping assist. All top spec velars come with 20-way electrically adjustable seats including lumbar adjustment and an option to cool, heat and massage compared to the entry level velars 8-way manual adjustment.
There are several Diesel and Petrol engine options available on the velar consisting of 3 Turbodiesels: D180, D240 and the D300 V6. And 3 Petrol engines: P250, P300 and the P380 V6. The top of the range Velar SVAutobiography Dynamic Edition comes with the same supercharged 5 Litre V8 engine as the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and offers huge performance. The Velar has been designed to improve efficencies and lower CO2 emissions and the Annual Road Tax starts from £320 a year.
