With a bold goal to be carbon neutral by the end of 2039, Jaguar Land Rover has a new kind of beast in the works, a Hydrogen-fuelled Land Rover Defender prototype. Here is everything you need to know.
Ahead of the curve and ahead of the game, Land Rover is set to release six electric SUV vehicles in the next five years, write the commitment to a greener future.
Of the Hydrogen-fuelled Land Rover Defender prototype, Ralph Clague, JLR’s hydrogen/fuel cell boss said, “We know hydrogen has a role to play in the future powertrain mix across the whole transport industry. Alongside battery electric vehicles, it offers another zero tailpipe emission solution for the specific capabilities and requirements of Jaguar Land Rover’s world class line-up of vehicles.”
So far, we know that it is based on the new Defender, and will have a fuel cell stack, electric drive units, a large battery that will use energy from braking, and a high-pressure tank for storing hydrogen. We are yet to see specs, images and further details of the car, but we know it is in the works and being tested and we know that the business sees hydrogen as the future for larger and long-distance drives, which is promising to see and hear.
Jaguar Land Rover has been hard at work in unveiling the new Defender, and adding various specs and trims to the line up that make it widely desired. Adding this new addition to the line up would only be a plus, and we can see that a lot of people would be interested to both learn more, and to own one.
The future is greener, and we are looking forward to seeing what is in store. If you would like to look for your next car or to chat about your options, get in touch with a member of the team at RIX Motors, where we are sure we will be able to help you.
